Bite Size Players
Stitcher
10 Minute Plays | SCAD | Fall 2023

I worked in the costume shop building costumes for SCAD's 10 minute play production title Bite Size Players. I first assisted in fittings, taking notes, fetching items, and offering assistance while the actors tried on garments. Then I worked on building items, focusing on this long engaging shawl. I cut the pattern pieces of the garment making sure each side and sleeve was even. After stitching the seams together I made sure each seam was serged and finished nicely. The sleeves near the shoulders were gathered will elastic to add some waves and visual interest to the area. Fringe was also added along the hem line and the sleeve ends. It fit with the character being a little bit quirky. Even though she had just been at a funeral, hence the all black, she had on a visually striking outfit with a fun pattern and movement. The burnout velvet fabric needed a needle board when ironing to maintain its pattern and fabric quality.

In addition to stitching I also assisted in tasks and alterations like sewing labels into garments. In productions with large casts it helps to have every clothing item labeled with the actor who it is used by. It helps dresser when organizing the costumes on racks. I helped stitch labels, making sure that they are secure with no chance of falling off.
