Burn the Witch

Burn the Witch was a supernatural period short film involving witches in the 17th Century. SCAD produced it on their campus in Lacoste, France which was a fun location and an interesting discussion of how to source fabric and rent costumes in another country. I assisted mainly as a stitcher building the gowns for the witches. Each outfit has a distinctive color and detailed floral patterns. Parts of the outfits, like the stomachers, had to be handsewed. To get a nice finish on the edges of apron that were seen I turned over the edges handsewed using a small slip stitch. The aprons and skirts were cut out of large rectangles of fabric and gathered a lot as they were very full. I assisted the other costumers in all their needs and even had time to help with the set dressing of natural flowers, plants, and twigs we scavenged and placed in the set that would be the witch's den. When brought back to SCAD's Savannah campus these costumes were worn on their XR stage for a scene involving LED technology for a magical supernatural scene.
